Environmental Conservation in semi arid areas: A Path Toward Sustainable Future.

Environmental conservation in semi-arid areas is the crucial component for maintaining sustainable future for both living and non non living creatures. Semi arid areas are characterized with drought, low rainfall, limited water resources, hot sun rays and in ability to grow most of the food crops. Most semi arid areas are situated in  the tropical climatic region where as some parts of Tanzania are also subjected to tropical climatic region such as Dodoma and Singida.

These areas are important for life activities as the act as habitat for some plants and animal species who are adapted to harsh climate. Also semi arid areas are important for trading activities and cultivation of some crops like dates sunflower,. and grapes. Economic activities that can be conmducted in semi arid areas include transportation, trade, tourism, agriculture and pastoralism. As these areas hold economic and ecologic values, conserving them is not just for beautification of the areas but for supporting million of lives of different species and human beings

Challenges Facing Environmental Conservation in Semi arid areas.

In every activity there are some obstacles that acts as bottlenecks for progress. In concerving the environment there are various setbacks that climatic activists face, these include;

1. Water Scarcity: Semi arid areas receive 250 to 500mm of rainfall per year which is insufficient for supporting lives of animals and plant growth. The insufficient of water in these areas lead to obstruction in agriculture especially in irrigation, drinking water for both human and animals, water dependent crops like rice and other human activities like hygiene tasks. 
2. Soil degradation and deforestation: These areas are faced with extremely soil degradation due to unsustainable farming, overgrazing and deforestation due to human activities for habitation. Since these areas are left bare they become hard to grow new plants as the land become barren, unable to support human and animal life.
3. Climatic changes: Semi arid areas have variation of climatic condition with shifting weather pattern. Climatic variation like increasing of temperature leads to high evaporation of water leading to scarce water availability and hardening of soil.
4. Extremely exploitation: People in semi arid areas demand firewood, water and land to carryon with their activities but this greatly affect the climatic condition. As population increases, people demand more space, energy and activities. This result to severe erosion and unfriendly environment  

Strategies For Environmental Conservation.

Seeing this problem increasing among the communities, NVRF decided to take measures to conserve environment for sustainable future. NVRF has applied the following measures.

Reforestation in semi arid areas

1. Reforestation: This involves planting trees to areas where tree where cut down. NVRF ensured all areas were there were trees replacement was done immediately. This is because trees helps to attract rainfall, provide shade and prevent soil erosion. 
2. Water Management and conservation: Creation of water reservoir was one among the important tasks done by NVRF. These reservoirs help to store water that can be used for other activities in the future.
3. Community involvement: Encouraging community members in development activities is important since there are the beneficiaries and the once to be affected in case of any irresponsibility. NVRF educated the community through the awareness campaigns conducted on the impact of environmental conservation.
4. Promoting sustainable agricultural practices: People are encouraged to use eco-friendly agricultural systems which do not affect the climatic condition. Agricultural activities include good livestock keeping by avoiding overgrazing and mantaining proper crop production.

It is the responsibility for each member to take care of the environment. It is reported that about 20% of the new infections reported are the results for environmental degradation. NVRF is working hard to ensure safe environment for all and is encouraging other institutions, organization, individuals and enterprises to support the cause for maximum impact
